Description
"Politics ends at the coast" was once considered an American consensus: regardless of what the parties fought over internally, the lines for foreign policy were drawn together – of course with different emphases, but the direction was shared. With the apparent end of the "unipolar moment" and American war fatigue, fundamental disagreements over direction have now also erupted within the parties. These partly reflect the dynamics of the culture war and fundamentally mirror different ideas of what America should be at its core.
