The Defilement of Lucretia: A Casting

«Oh! she lost what was more valuable to her than life.» William Shakespeare A group of actors and a writer attempt to stage Shakespeare's poem ‹The Defilement of Lucretia›. They hold auditions for all roles, analyze the text, act out the situations, and connect them with their own experiences. As a band, they transform all the anger and pain into music. Sexualized violence is omnipresent and political. Countless stories, songs, films, and images of assaults shape our culture. Director Lola Arias bases her piece on research and conversations with victims of violence, artists, and philosophers. What ideas do we have in mind when we say the word rape? How much silence, fear, and shame do we carry with us? How is sexualized violence anchored in our bodies and society?
