The Mafia and the Women

Description

The history of the Italian Mafia appears at first glance to be a story of men: mob bosses who fought each other relentlessly, who also challenged the Italian state in part and caused thousands of deaths, including many innocent victims of organized crime. But upon closer inspection, this one-sided view proves to be incomplete and therefore false: the face of the Mafia is also female. But not only that, women have also dared to confront the Mafia, fighting it with great courage, even though their stories have unfortunately been quickly forgotten. Dr. Alessandro Bellardita, a criminal law professor, former criminal judge, Mafia expert, and defense attorney, will shed light on an otherwise overlooked aspect of the Mafia this evening. This lecture evening is organized at the strong request of the audience for the Bellardita reading "The Sicilian File," which took place last year at the city library.
