Description
Five minutes. That's how long it takes on average for TikTok to recommend misogynistic content to a 15-year-old — without them searching for it. Recommendation algorithms from TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube are inscrutable black boxes: they shape opinions, amplify emotions, and can draw people into radical online worlds within minutes. Using an SRF experiment, the lecture shows how these algorithms work, how platforms monetize attention — and what can be done about it.
