Every third Thursday of the month, we invite you to enjoy cultural bites with interviews, tours, and conversations. Tonight is dedicated to the work and creations of the Lenzburg painter Margrit Haemmerli. Margrit Haemmerli is one of the women portrayed in our special exhibition "Pioneers. Female Artists. Thinkers." who have achieved great things in Lenzburg. For the first time in 40 years, her work is again on view in a museum exhibition. The exhibition is dedicated to the main work of the Lenzburg artist Margrit Haemmerli (1900–1979). Influenced by her youth in Lenzburg – at the parental home of the poetess Sophie Marti and the doctor Max Haemmerli – and her training in Basel, Munich, and Paris, she developed an independent, expressive visual language in the late 1930s. During her stays in Paris – a center of international modernism – luminous landscapes, nudes, and (self-)portraits emerged, characterized by vivid colors, simplified forms, and dynamic brushwork. As one of the early representatives of international modernism in Switzerland, Haemmerli was a true pioneer for Lenzburg, whose work extends far beyond regional borders. Outstanding paintings, recently donated generously from the artist's family circle to the Stiftung Museum Burghalde, are on display. The exhibition is complemented by selected drawings that provide insight into her meticulous working process and show how her distinctive visual language was created from careful observation.
