Description

The occasion for this art exhibition is the donation of the extensive estate of the artist to the Museum Burghalde Foundation in 2019. In recent years, the rich collection of letters, paintings, and other archives has been scientifically researched. The publication of the multi-year meticulous research on the painter, written by Samuel E. Lynn, finally appears in book form and presents the life and work of the Lenzburg artist.

Raised in Lenzburg, artistically trained in Bergamo, and internationally appreciated, she was denied great success – despite excellent artistic works, reviews, and exhibition participations: She exhibited multiple times in Bergamo, Milan, the Munich Glass Palace, and at the Turnus exhibition in various Swiss cities. “In England, where she quickly painted portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce, Lady Colthurst, and also the portrait of Miss Augusta Ruby Spencer–Churchill, the granddaughter of the 6th Duke of Marlborough; the latter work, of remarkable quality, ...,” writes a contemporary critique. Even the upper circles around artists Enrico Scuri (1806–1884) and Cesare Tallone (1853–1919) as well as contacts of the aristocracy she portrayed did not bring the desired success. She died in 1929 in Bergamo.
