Who actually was Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi? The play begins with the seemingly random approach to this historical figure: Streets, schools, and libraries are named after him everywhere; at first glance, he seems widely known – but in reality, hardly anyone knows much about him anymore. The approach to this biography becomes the starting point of an increasingly intense journey that takes us from Pestalozzi's grave in Aargau through pedagogical utopias to Hiroshima, where the Japanese educator Arata Osada translated the complete works of his Swiss colleague into Japanese and survived the atomic bomb drop over his city in 1945.
With headphones, the audience immerses themselves in an immersive sound journey between continents and centuries.
A theater evening about possible role models in times that overwhelm us. About the education of the next generations when the world threatens to destroy itself. And about the question: To whom do we give our rare attention and what do we pass on?
The author and director Maria Ursprung has been part of the co-leadership of Theater Marie since 2022. After IN DUBIO (premiere at Kurtheater 2023) and HÖHERE GEWALT (2025), we present her new work, which is rehearsed at Kurtheater and also premieres here.
