Description
What does it mean to be a woman after breast cancer? This is the question posed by the Solothurn Cancer League’s photography project “Trotzdem Frau” (“A Woman All the Same”)—with courage, openness, and artistic power. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. Many of them must undergo a mastectomy as a result of the disease—a life-changing event that profoundly affects body image, identity, and self-worth. The project’s initiator, Menga Rieben—who has personally experienced breast cancer—approached the Solothurn Cancer League in the fall of 2025 with the idea of creating a photo exhibition titled “Trotzdem Frau.” Together, we want to break the taboo surrounding breast cancer and mastectomy and show that being a woman is defined not only by the body, but also by one’s attitude and courage. The photographs by Pascale Florio, a professional photographer from Reinach, depict women who—despite scars and physical changes—have chosen not to undergo breast reconstruction and to remain visible. Their courage is further highlighted by their deeply personal stories. Exhibition Dates & Hours
