Description

Abitur 2027 – Focus topic German Court Day in the Dutch village Huisum. Judge Adam must hear the case of Eve's broken jug. Ruprecht, her fiancé, is supposed to have shattered it. Or was everything quite different? Kleist's comedy shows male abuse of power in its purest form. Heinrich von Kleist's comedy "Der zerbrochne Krug," premiered in 1808 in Weimar, will be on the schedule of the Badische Landesbühne from November 2025. On the day of the trial, Marthe Rull accuses Ruprecht in court. He broke a jug in her daughter Eve's room during the night. The exhausted judge Adam, heavily marked by wounds, finds the matter bothersome. But his superior, judicial counselor Walter, forces him to hear the case. While Eve insists on silence, Adam tries to postpone the matter as a triviality. Soon, not only judicial counselor Walter wonders if Judge Adam knows more than he seems to. "Der zerbrochne Krug" is a grotesque struggle to avoid the truth. Confronting dogmatism with arbitrariness, stubbornness with pedantic caution. Through its vivid, punchy language, Kleist's comedy, one of the most frequently performed plays in the German-speaking world, still captivates audiences. Featuring: Martin Behlert, Laura Brettschneider, Tobias Gondolf, Madeline Hartig, Thilo Langer, Evelyn Nagel, Frank Siebers. Direction: Friederike Drews. Stage and costume: Ev Benzing. Sound design: Georg Fleischfresser. Lighting design: Tilo Schwarz. Age recommendation: from 14 years. Photo: ©Manuel Wagner.
