Description

Village judge Adam himself is under suspicion: injured, armed with excuses, and supported by a village hierarchy that prefers to look away rather than question. Only the arrival of Judge Walter forces him to defend himself publicly – and drives him into a trial that could cost him everything. Kleist's comedy shows how power is maintained through lies and how willingly a community supports this. Adam's audacity therefore feels familiar to this day: those with influence often get away unpunished, while responsibility is actively suppressed.
