A classic – radically reinterpreted Marco Goecke's interpretation of the ballet classic 'Der Nussknacker' surprises: It deliberately breaks with familiar images, opens up unfamiliar perspectives, and takes us into a fantastical, quirky world between (night)mare and reality. Accompanied by the mysterious border-crosser Drosselmeier, the two children Fritz and Marie experience joy, sparkle, and wonder – but also disappointment, shadows, and decay. Tchaikovsky's music, played by the Basel Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Thomas Herzog, brings the magic of this journey to life.
