Thursday, October 22, 2026, 7:30 PM “A stranger is only a stranger in a foreign land.” Karl Valentin What does it mean to be a stranger? And what remains when memories fade and farewells become inevitable? In “The sky is blue,” two characters encounter the texts of Karl Valentin and find themselves right in the middle of his absurd yet surprisingly everyday language world. With reduced, poetic stage language and clownish play, a theater evening emerges between humor, absurdity, and quiet moments of touch. Karl Valentin (1882–1948) is one of the most important German comedians and language artists. His distinctive linguistic wit, absurd dialogues, and keen eye for the small cracks of everyday life make his texts surprisingly relevant to this day. Behind the apparent nonsense lies a subtle observation of human peculiarities and an invitation to see the world for a moment through different eyes. Joseffo Olivero and Priska Elmiger have developed an independent, approximately 65-minute theater evening from Valentin's texts. They direct and perform themselves, combining Valentin's linguistic wit with their own poetic and clownish stage language. An evening to laugh, reflect, and recognize – about being a stranger, forgetfulness, and saying goodbye. A production by theater haifrisch in cooperation with theater courage.
