The sea was so wild that I often thought I was going to drown. But this related element does me no harm. It knows quite well that I can be even more wild. And then, am I not the court poet of the North Sea? July 29, 1826 Heinrich Heine (1797 - 1856), the great German poet, has many faces: He is a Romantic and a satirist, a lyricist and a journalist, radically private and always political, a lovesick mocker, a bourgeois snob and an uncompromising critic of bourgeois self-righteousness. All this is also evident when he, as the first significant German poet, sings the praises of the North Sea. Two poetry cycles titled "The North Sea" were created in 1825 and 1826; they are the lyrical harvest of several spa stays on Norderney. Finally, he visits the island of Helgoland in 1829 and 1830 and is considered the one who established the fame of the island as a seaside resort for intellectuals in the first half of the 19th century. The sea as a natural force stands in stark contrast to the petty, cramped German society of the Restoration period. Typical of Heine is the constant shift between romantic enthusiasm and bitter irony. In his "Helgoland Letters," he is vividly portrayed as an original, unconventional thinker with witty, razor-sharp expressions. The poems and letters are read by Klaus Hemmerle, associated with Rigiblick as an actor and dramaturge of the "Flying Carpet." Maritime music full of wind and vastness by the ensemble "Transatlantica" around Philipp Furrer with his very special, sitting-played Weissenborn guitar, Adrian Würsch on the Swiss accordion, and percussionist Sämi Baur.
