But after the turn of the millennium, even ordinary people demanded their own place in religious life. The desire for an authentic life in the sense of the Gospel and for emotional closeness to the Crucified grew stronger. During the 1000 years of the Middle Ages, Christianity underwent a profound transformation. The lecture provides an overview of this development.
