DEBÜTS & DRINKS – ANNA SCHAPIRO & LEH-WEI LIAO in conversation about "Feel at home, but don't forget you're a guest" and "Glass Time". In the twelfth event of the series, we speak with Anna Schapiro and Leh-Wei Liao about their different perspectives on the literary scene, about language, body, and seeing, and about the stories on which we build our lives. "Feel at home, but don't forget you're a guest" (Matthes & Seitz) – the title of Anna Schapiro's novel sets the tone. The narrator Anna travels to New York, Boston, Arad, and Haifa after her grandmother's death to listen to the people who are still there: "And while I sit and listen, the world changes and I change with it." Life also takes a turn in Leh-Wei Liao's novel "Glass Time" (Luchterhand): unexpectedly, the narrator Novana, a doctor on a neonatal ward in Taipei, sees her mother, an artist with an international reputation, on a billboard. Eighteen years earlier, her daughter was left behind in Cologne. Anna Schapiro studied Fine Arts and Jewish Studies, exhibits internationally, is co-editor of the magazine "Jalta – Positions on Jewish Present," and a member of the collective "Ministry of Compassion." Leh-Wei Liao is a doctor and currently studies Fine Arts in Kassel. Her debut novel is on the longlist for the German Book Prize 2026. Moderation: Lena Dircks and Carolin Löher.
