Description

In early 2026, the native Basel resident David Howald released his first German-language solo album, "Der Narr." Support came from the German sound guru Ralv Milberg (Die Nerven, Friends of Gas). Behind these nine intimate, broken-sung songs, there seems to be something like the skeleton of deep soundscapes. Equally evocative are Howald's lyrics, which invite you into vividly imagined spaces where personal and universal themes effortlessly merge. Musically, it could be described as a kind of dark folk with ambient framing, occupying a unique space somewhere between Vic Chesnutt, PJ Harvey, and the calmer works of Einstürzende Neubauten. At his concert at Literaturcafé Biel, he will also read a few prose texts appropriate to the occasion.
