Myriam Gämperli's works connect to a surrealistic tradition of arrangement. The playful mix of the recognizable and the unfamiliar creates a charm that characterizes her productions. Gämperli creates a space where hierarchies are questioned, gravity is overcome, and bodies are freed from their limitations. She often stages herself as a hybrid being or a mix of object and subject. The sculptural performance allows her to assume multiple identities that unfold along the axes of nature, gender, and concepts of beauty. The stage-like sequences are inspired by the artist's everyday life, which takes place between the urban space of Zurich and the nature of Bettenaus SG. Contrasting elements repeatedly manifest in Gämperli's collages, paintings, installations, performances, and dances. They reflect autobiographical experiences: raised in a hamlet of 75 inhabitants, she has lived in cities like London, Berlin, and Zurich. The diverse experiences with marginalized groups and subcultures at the intersection of art and tradition continue to shape her today.
