Description

What would you do if you were about to become the Prime Minister of the country and suddenly learned about a crime committed by your teenage son together with his cousin? A crime that seems to have no witnesses and is already beginning to fade from the country's short-term memory?
Two couples meet in a fine dining restaurant and cautiously make their way through aperitifs, starters, and numerous other courses. Because each member of this family quartet knows more than initially thought and evaluates the situation differently. Should they report their children so that the teenagers can be held accountable? Or should they rather cover it up to not ruin their sons' futures? And don't the adults have something to lose as well? The fact is: in the end, a person is dead. And the parents have to talk.
THE DINNER is a star-studded moral thriller, featuring Ulrich Matthes and Maren Eggert, and a debate piece full of clever twists and surprising tricks. It deals with violence and how it powerfully survives under the thin veneer of civilization, how the human aggression drive is transmitted within families and silenced socially, how it is repressed, trivialized, and medicated to ensure that everything continues to function well.
