Five Ballets by Marco Goecke With ‹Dark Matter›, the Basel Ballet invites you to an entertaining, intense evening. Five miniatures offer a multifaceted insight into the unique world of Marco Goecke and condense over 25 years of his work into a compact, impressive experience. The format is newly assembled each season and includes solos, duets, and short ensemble works from over 100 pieces – choreographic jewels performed worldwide and now to be experienced up close on the Small Stage of Theater Basel. Danced by an ensemble that carries Goecke's works as if by the umbilical cord and has long internalized his unmistakable style. The intimate solo ‹Tué› sets three extraordinary women in a sensitive interplay to the music of French chanson singer Barbara. In deep midnight blue, the tension-filled duet ‹Midnight Raga› unfolds and transports to a mystical Indian night. With ‹Äffi›, a repertoire classic, Goecke's style became instantly known in 2005 – a solo that is still regarded as the epitome of his nervously vibrating movement ductus. In ‹All Long Dem Day› and ‹Nachtmerrie›, scenes about closeness, separation, change, and hope emerge in connection with Nina Simone and Lady Gaga. Accompanied by works of various musical styles, this string of signature pieces spans a bridge between darkness and light, as well as drama and lyricism. Thus, the 'dark matter' that makes Goecke's work so timeless and touching becomes palpable.
