Doors: 7:30 PM, Start: 8:00 PM At the beginning of 1833, when twenty-one-year-old Franz Liszt played at a soirée, among the guests was one of the most elegant figures of Parisian society: Marie d’Agoult. The daughter of Count Maurice de Flavigny and granddaughter of banker Moritz Bethmann was born in 1805 in Frankfurt am Main. In 1827, she entered into a social marriage in Paris with Count Charles d’Agoult, who was fifteen years her senior, with whom she had two children. The marriage was not happy, but they had made arrangements, and the countess had complete freedom to pursue her intellectual interests. She opened her own salon, where literary readings took place. Marie d’Agoult’s enchanting beauty, her taste, her intelligence found many admirers. For Liszt, the relationship with the six years older countess became the first fulfilled love of his life. In Paris salons, Marie’s love affair with Liszt was considered scandalous. Under societal pressure, the two fled to Switzerland. These years were also overshadowed by frequent phases of separation. Liszt increasingly went on extended concert tours, and a voluminous correspondence between the two lovers was created, documenting both their intimate relationship and their fleeting happiness. Under the motto Our whole love, our whole misfortune, Corinna Harfouch and Hideyo Harada craft a musico-literary program dedicated to the couple Liszt – d’Agoult. Readings from Marie’s memoirs, the correspondence between her and Liszt, as well as documents from contemporaries, are intertwined with excerpts from the Années de Pélerinage and other piano works by the composer. Thus, words and sound connect to provide profound insights into one of the great love stories of the 19th century. Corinna Harfouch is one of the most well-known German character actresses in film, television, and theater. She convincingly and sustainably embodies the extremes of human existence. Her performances often walk the fine line between the depths of life. Born in Suhl, the actress studied at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin and has appeared on all major theater stages in Germany and in numerous guest performances in Austria and Switzerland. Since her debut in front of the camera in 1995, she has participated in more than 100 film and cinema productions. Recent films include The Girl with the Golden Hands (2022) by Katharina Marie Schubert and Everything in Best Order (2022) by Natja Brunckhorst. She has received multiple awards for her theater work, including the Gertrud-Eysoldt-Ring in 1997 for outstanding acting achievements and was named Actress of the Year by the magazine Theater heute for her role as General Harras in Des Teufels General (directed by Frank Castorf). She has also been honored with many awards for her film work, including the Bavarian Film Award, Adolf Grimme Prize, German Television Award, German Film Award, German Actor Award, Günter Rohrbach Prize, and Hessian Film Award. "Whether passionate emotion or dreamlike poetry, gentle or wild: Hideyo Harada lets herself be carried away by the music, from delicate chords to frenzy, she captures all emotional expressions," according to Süddeutsche Zeitung about the Japanese pianist. With her broad repertoire, she is a welcome guest at international festivals and performs with renowned orchestras. Harada’s versatility is also reflected in her extensive discography, which includes works by Samuel Feinberg and Michio Mamiya, as well as compositions by Schubert, Chopin, Schumann, Grieg, and Scriabin. In chamber music evenings, Hideyo Harada collaborates with, among others, the Borodin Quartet, violinists Latica Honda-Rosenberg and Mikhail Simonyan, cellist Jens Peter Maintz, and baritone Roman Trekel. In addition to recordings for international radio and television stations, several award-winning recordings by the pianist are available.
