Description

Those who know how to ignite the great keyboard fireworks of Liszt, Rachmaninoff and co. may feel slightly underchallenged by Mozart. One might think so, but far from it! With Mozart, everything can be heard, phrasing, shaping, balance are required. In short: here the dazzling chaff is separated from the artistic wheat, and that is why the semi-final of the Concours Géza Anda is always called the Mozart round! This also fits the namesake, the Hungarian-Swiss master pianist Géza Anda, who set standards not only as a virtuoso but also with the very first complete recording of Mozart's concertos. The Concours Géza Anda has existed since 1979, and because of special features like this Mozart round, it is one of the most difficult piano competitions worldwide. Since 2000, the Musikkollegium Winterthur has accompanied the semi-final and also awards the "Mozart Prize" for the best Mozart interpretation there. By the way, Géza Anda was closely connected to the Musikkollegium since 1944. At his last concert on January 25, 1973, he conducted the orchestra from the piano playing Mozart's "Jenamy" concerto. His legacy lives on in the competition – who knows which new fixed stars in the piano sky will be discovered in the 2024 edition!

Jury 2027: Gerhard Oppitz (President). The other jury members will be announced at a later date.

The program (3 piano concertos by W. A. Mozart) and the soloists will be announced the evening before.
