"Sick Guitars and Terror Visions" could be the title of a fantasy sci-fi film where the leader of a secret order of cosmic knights predicts the end of the world. Laser beams shoot from his fiery eyes, while barbarians with plasma swords fight dragons and a fleet of star warriors faster than light wage war against gigantic space worms. The towers of the iron cities of civilization are on the verge of collapse. All of this takes place in a dimension where time has been turned upside down – 1,000 years after the Hyborian Age, but before the first elf at the coast of Cuiviénnen sees the light of the stars. In this fantastically bizarre chaos, S. G. A. T. V. provides the appropriate soundtrack.
In a somewhat duller and therefore even more malicious world, S. G. A. T. V. is a project by Severin Beerli. Furious guitar riffs meet synths, creating a mix of punk à la Devo, wave, and heavy metal. What started as a solo project has now become a group of six people who come together on stage and bring the songs to life. And now, the time has come: a new album is in the works, and it wants to blast through ears and blow some fuses. With "Now To Ruin," S. G. A. T. V. reinvents itself in several ways. More than ever before, the influences of heavy metal become apparent; the new album is more rock-oriented and epic than previous releases, with sci-fi punk riffs and grand synth melodies taking center stage. "Now To Ruin" is released on the Swedish label Push My Buttons, just like the self-titled predecessor. This time, however, the songs were recorded with the entire band – and the ecstatic energy of their live shows has been captured for eternity. A record release party alone would be enough reason to get into the power field. But it gets even better: S. G. A. T. V. will have friends with them – and what friends! Useless Eaters can be classified at the intersection of raw punk, experimentalism, and visual art. Starting in 2008 with releases on underground labels, they have built a reputation.
