Description
Virginie Brunelle, Choreography
Molinari Quartet: Music by Philip Glass, Henryk Górecki, Max Richter, Samuel Barber & Dmitri Shostakovich What remains of closeness when it becomes fragile? "Les corps avalés" addresses this question – not theoretically, but physically. Seven dancers find themselves in situations that tip: embraces become hard, encounters bounce off, closeness turns into distance. And yet, there is always the attempt to establish connection. For what would we humans be without it? The Canadian choreographer Virginie Brunelle laments the loss of attachment and empathy in society in this choreography. "Humanity is becoming fragile," she says, showing in her nuanced language of rhythm, glances, gestures, and breathing the dynamics of power – in private life as well as in society. The piece is supported by live music from the Molinari Quartet. The music here does not only serve a supportive function. Rather, it intervenes in the movement and drives it forward. For Virginie Brunelle, there is a dramatic tension inherent in all classical music; she learned the violin for ten years until the music somehow transferred to her body and she studied dance. Now she asks how, to string music, our bodies can counter the spreading indifference with values like solidarity or love through dance. Duration: 65 minutes without intermission
