For children aged 9 and up Do you love chocolate and enjoy riding your bike to school? And do you know where chocolate and the rubber for your bicycle tires come from? Wangari Grace – internationally renowned storyteller – and Hamburg musician Sven Kacirek developed in 2022 a musical "Oral History Performance" about the colonial period from 1870-1960. It was told from the perspective of different African cultures. In a continuation, the focus was then more on the effects of colonialism on the present day. Now, Kacirek, together with Wangari and illustrator Dan Yessa, has published the book "Colonialism - How Africa fought back." On the occasion of the book's release, we bring a storytelling performance in the German version with the German-Ghanaian actress Charity Collin, along with an exhibition of the pictures by Dan Jessa. The format was deliberately chosen because "oral tradition" was the most popular technique on the African continent to pass knowledge and experiences from one generation to the next before colonial powers took control. Despite the seriousness of the topic, it is told in a child-friendly and thoughtful manner. A co-production of KinderKinder e. V. and the Munich Kammerspiele.
