Description
The choir of the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Old Brno is a place closely connected to the childhood and youth of Leoš Janáček. He regularly sang here as a chorister and later held the position of choir director. His teacher, choir director and founder of the Augustinian Abbey, Pavel Křížkovský, was a great promoter of so-called Cecilianism, a reform of church music aimed at cleansing it of classical and especially romantic layers, reviving Gregorian chant, performing works from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and composing pieces close to the so-called Palestrina style.
