Beirut, today: Nino runs his own restaurant, 'Chez Nino', where this charming disheveled man concocts innovative dishes with his best friend and his pregnant partner. He is an inveterate optimist, whose life philosophy stems from the early loss of his parents. Yasmina, on the other hand, has a more skeptical view of a reality marked by political, economic, and personal crises. This busy government advisor is shaping the country's economic future but already has one foot abroad. When fate reunites these two childhood friends turned adults, the spark is immediate. But what begins as a wonderful twist of fate is quickly caught up in the precarious reality of life in Lebanon: how to envision a stable future in a country whose present is constantly shaken? The story of Nino and Yasmina becomes a reflection of a country torn between hope and disillusionment. Over three decades, Cyril Aris tells the story of a great love, marked by both mutual attraction and divergent life plans. Mounia Akl, who is actually a director (Costa Brava, Lebanon), brilliantly plays her first role in cinema, while the charismatic Hasan Akil embodies Nino with such unwavering positivity that one can easily understand Yasmina's frustration with his refusal to confront bitter truths. The chemistry is palpable – but the lively direction also captivates with its energy, dynamic camera work, and skillful time jumps, allowing Cyril Aris's debut feature to span three decades. The electronic soundtrack by Anthony Sahyoun contributes to this enchanting atmosphere: both bright and hopeful, yet also contemplative and introspective. This romantic drama received acclaim in Venice in 2025 (Audience Award at the Giornate degli autori) and represented Lebanon at the 2026 Oscars.
