Description
À VOIX BASSE
FR 2026 / Director: Leyla Bouzid Lilia has built a life in Paris, far from her family's expectations. When she returns to the family home in Tunisia, time seems to have stopped: familiar rooms, old rituals, and three generations of women among whom many things remain tacit. But her return stirs up trouble. The death of her uncle raises questions that no one wants to clarify. The more Lilia seeks answers, the more she delves into a network of silences and enigmatic allusions. In search of the truth, she begins to understand how much what was left unsaid has marked her life – and seeks a way to free herself from it. With "À voix basse," director Leyla Bouzid embarks on a journey to her homeland, Tunisia, and offers a precise look at society and family traditions. The strong female cast, composed of Eya Bouteraa, Hiam Abbass, and Marion Barbeau, carries this dense family portrait, which deals with tacit truths and the silent desire for understanding. Presented in competition at Berlinale 2026, this film embodies powerful auteur cinema with great emotional depth. Drama, languages: VO/d/f, subtitles: DE, 110 min, not suitable for children under 14.
