Description

The 'Chlauseslä' is a unique custom that can only be found in this form in the Aegeri Valley. The most important utensil is the 'Chlausesel', a fantasy head modeled on a donkey. In the afternoon from 3 - 5 pm, the children go from house to house with their Chlausesel shouting "Holi holi hüü, dä Chlaus isch doo!" until they receive a small gift. In the evening, it's the turn of the older children with several Chlauseselrottä. The Chlaus goes from door to door, accompanied by the ringing of cowbells, the banging of geislä and the eerie sound of cow horns, and asks for a gift. At around 9:30 pm, a magnificent procession of all the Rottä takes place on the village square.
