Description
The Celebration Gospel Choir is guesting at the Capitol Mannheim. The approximately 45 singers are looking forward to performing the grand work 'A Soulful Celebration'. This is the gospel version of Handel's oratorio 'Messiah'. It is full of jazz and soul elements, ranging from classic big-band swing to funk, reggae, and hip-hop. The original is not simply 'jazzed up' — rather, the styles meet on equal terms and enrich each other. The work is based on the CD 'A Soulful Celebration' by Quincy Jones, which received a Grammy in 1993. The Celebration Gospel Choir had the work newly arranged for the concert stage by their pianist Joe Völker. This 'Soul-Messiah' sets standards in the field of Contemporary Gospel while simultaneously bridging to the Baroque oratorio. Virtuosic, multifaceted, and captivating, the Celebration Gospel Choir, under the direction of Anne Westrich, presents this work along with its brilliant soloists and the excellent six-member professional backing band. As a special guest, the renowned artist Darius Merstein-McLeod will sing.
