Door opening: 7:30 PM / Start: 8:00 PM Tribute to the Bernese troubadour Bernhard Stirnemann – Bernese chanson and reading from the biography «Bene – E fräche Siech» In 2026, the Bernese troubadour Bernhard Stirnemann would have turned 90 years old. «Bene» – as his environment called him – is considered, alongside Mani Matter, as one of the founders of Bernese chanson. Like Matter, he was inspired by French chanson. In the 1960s, both contributed to the popularity of Bernese chanson as it is known today. Bernhard Stirnemann – a teacher by profession – was more than the mischievous Bernese troubadour many know him as. He ran his own small theater and significantly influenced the scene for years. As a cultural politician, he was active in the Bern city council and in the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern. In autumn 2026, the biography «Bene – E fräche Siech» by historian Beat Hodler will be published by Zytglogge Verlag. Simultaneously, the homage program «Mys Käthi schmöckt nach Schoggola» will start. Comedienne Lisa Catena and Bernese chansonnier Rolf Marti honor Bernhard Stirnemann with a mix of reading and songs – including pieces for which no recordings exist.
