CARA is a multinational Celtic folk band that has won two Irish Music Awards. The musicians enjoy an excellent reputation for their innovative arrangements, their original compositions and songwriting, virtuosic performances, and a charismatic stage presence. They create their own sound, with the voices of the two singers Gudrun Walther and Kim Edgar at the center. The vocal range spans from dreamy ballads to archaic Gaelic Mouth Music to original songs with current socio-political relevance, with the two lead singers complementing each other with dreamlike certainty. The songs alternate with fast-paced instrumental pieces, brought to life by the virtuosic interplay of fiddle and Uilleann pipes. The Irish bagpipe, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage in 2017, is played by Simon Pfisterer, who studied this extraordinary instrument at the University of Limerick. The elegant and expressive fiddle playing of Gudrun Walther is highly praised by the press both at home and abroad. What makes CARA particularly special is the interaction of guitar and piano and the unique, rhythmically and harmonically rich arrangements of the band. They bear the signature of Jürgen Treyz, guitarist, producer, and musical mastermind of the band. From the opener to the encore, CARA sets highlights in their concerts, not least through the captivating solos contributed by each band member, and they surprise the audience with always new sounds.
