Description
Founded in 1933 on the initiative of Raphaël Radraux and Louis Pasquier, the "Symphony Orchestra" of Bulle originally consisted of string players and a piano. In 1943, the orchestra was officially recognized as an association, and Emile Lattion took over the leadership until 1964 when Charles Baldinger joined, to whom the OVB owes much of its musical wealth. Major festivals such as Pauvre Jacques and the Pastorale Gruérienne by Carlo Boller or Grevire by Abbé Joseph Bovet, theater and choir collaborations, engagement with symphonic works, and major music events in Bulle (Schubertiades, Mozart music festivals, Schumann, Bach, etc.) vividly demonstrate the intensive musical activity of the OVB over its eighty years of existence. Since 1999, the OVB, under its current music director Olivier Murith, has pursued a philosophy of approaching well-known and lesser-known works of the classical repertoire.
