Description

From its beginnings, its repertoire was mainly composed of Austro-Hungarian music, including marches, waltzes, and polkas. During the war, the orchestra turned more towards local music. Composers from Fribourg, as well as musicians from the society itself, regularly wrote works for the orchestra, which quickly became the most popular ensemble in the region. Besides its concerts and its own festivals, the orchestra also provided musical accompaniment for theatrical productions and participated in events organized by various clubs and associations. Today, the Society of the Düdingen Orchestra has about twenty active members. Its instrumentation is that of a salon orchestra. For concerts, the orchestra is regularly reinforced by additional musicians. Light Viennese classical music remains a key element of its repertoire. The repertoire is constantly enriched with film music, secular music, and classical music. The highlight of the year for the orchestra is the spring concert at the Podium of Düdingen. An Advent concert featuring contemplative music, and an outdoor concert, weather permitting, are also part of the annual program and have become appreciated traditions.

General Information
