Camerata & Kids – Elgar Deconstructed

Description

Camerata & Kids is the family offer of Camerata Zürich for children from 7 years old. In this newly designed format, children and adults experience together in the concert hall how classical music becomes understandable step by step. The works are introduced age-appropriately, made audible, taken apart and reassembled, and explained with small musical observations and experiments so that even young ears can follow them with curiosity. This concert is entirely dedicated to the strings. Children discover how differently a string orchestra can sound: sometimes closed and powerful, sometimes delicate, almost like a conversation between smaller groups. They experience how motifs are passed on, how tension arises, and how many different roles become audible in an ensemble. In the first part, Evamaria Felder guides through selected musical moments from the two works. She shows in a child-friendly way what to listen for and how many individual voices come together to form a common sound. This way, children learn music not through explanations from outside but directly by listening. Afterwards, the works sound in full form. What was previously discovered together is now audible in context. A concert that awakens curiosity, sharpens listening, and opens a lively access to classical music for children.
