Filip Kopeć, a painter, sculptor, and foreigner, arrives in Budějovice from Wrocław, Poland. He has never been to South Bohemia before. He enters an unfamiliar landscape where a language he does not understand is spoken. He steps into four new places and meets people he did not know before, yet who have decided to open their doors to him. Gestures of open doors, handshakes, and welcomes become the starting point for their shared exploration of what it means today to trust someone enough to invite them into one’s home, what rituals we associate with hospitality, and how to create closeness in a time when we seem to be growing more distant. In exchange for trust, he brings his paintings and sculptures made from discarded materials found on the streets of the Pražské předměstí into their homes. He tells a story about the invisible, about things we have forgotten that have slipped through the sieve of our attention over time. The Budějovický gallery weekend will open galleries in early October where we would not expect them. In living rooms, gardens, patios, and shared living units, where art has always had its space alongside traditional galleries. Paintings on walls, sculptures, photographs, textile art, and other art forms co-create a sense of home and narrate our personal history. We are interested in the moment when such personal space opens up, when home and art can become a place of meeting, an act of expressed trust, a moment when we see each other. During one weekend, you can visit four thematically connected galleries, meet people in your neighborhood, or reflect with us on what closeness and hospitality mean today.
