Book Presentation with Discussion – Die Passauer Waldwerke GmbH

Description

Book presentation with discussion at the Friedrichshafen City Archive on November 6, 2026, at 6 PM: Die Passauer Waldwerke GmbH as a subsidiary of Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG – KZ external camp and forced labor during National Socialism. Author Moritz Grote and city archivist Jürgen Oellers present the research findings on the KZ external camp Passau II, which were published this year in "Water. Armament. Forced Labor. The KZ External Camps Passau I and II" in the book series "Mauthausen Studies" by the Mauthausen Memorial. In Passau II, which belonged to the Mauthausen camp complex, over 350 KZ prisoners were exploited from March to November 1944 in tank drive manufacturing for Waldwerke GmbH, a subsidiary of Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG. Oellers and Grote explain the role of Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG as a military equipment company during the Nazi era and broaden the view to company actors and the connection to Waldwerke GmbH. Using documents and images, the factory grounds and external camp architecture in Passau are illustrated, Waldwerke management and SS personnel are discussed, and backgrounds of forced labor and KZ prisoners are presented. Following the talk, there will be a public discussion with space for in-depth questions.
