Description
When, on a rainy Thursday morning in 1953, a strangely dressed figure enters the Graubündner Kantonalbank in Chur, a crime begins: The bank director is brutally killed during the robbery. A day after the solemn funeral, the gamekeeper is sure he has discovered the body of the director high up in the enchanted Scaläratobel northeast of the town. However, the bishop himself has laid him to rest in front of many mourners, and the resting place in the cemetery remains untouched. Hours later, two crows circle cawing over the foggy ravine, which everyone has known for generations to be cursed, as Landjäger Caminada and Lieutenant Marugg have completed the steep and dangerous ascent to check the witness statement. What they find is quite gruesome. But this is only the beginning, because the gate to hell is wide open. Philipp Gurt was born in 1968 as the seventh of eight children in a poor mountain farming family in Graubünden and grew up in various orphanages. Already as a teenager, Gurt wrote short stories, and at twenty, his first novel followed. He has always had a close relationship with nature, which also influences his highly atmospheric writing. His connection to the canton of Graubünden, where he still lives as a freelance writer, is evident in every one of his novels. Afterwards, a reception will be offered.
