Description

Christian Gschwend (the lively one) and Kay Rauber (the serious one, with a slight penchant for the whimsical) have gathered everyday objects for their new show “schlagZEUGS” that they found somewhere between Ikea and the household goods aisle. The duo drums on anything they can get their sticks on and tests various everyday objects for their suitability for sound and rhythm. They play on pots, kettles, with sticks, whisks, and sometimes even with rubber chickens. The audience is amazed that one can play an oriental pop song on an egg slicer and intone “Stand by Me” on a string from a wooden box. Appenzell folk yodeling, spiritual singing bowl frequencies at 432 hertz, samba, techno, rock groove—nothing is off-limits to the Bubbles, and certainly nothing is foreign to them. Here are two musicians at work who have been refining their style for over 20 years and now master their craft so exquisitely that it comes across as light-footed and playful. With this, the Bubble Beatz return to their beginnings, when everything was “small and intimate” and they hadn’t yet toured the big venues or embarked on tours that took them all the way to China.
