Description

The connection between bird songs and the recorder is deeply rooted in music history. The English word for recorder, 'recorder', derives from the Latin 'recordari' – 'to remember', but also 'to imitate'. Already in the Baroque period, ornamental birds were kept to teach melodies on the recorder and to engage in musical dialogue with them.
This tradition is reflected in our program: bird calls and songs are musically processed in various ways: sometimes as direct imitation, sometimes as a starting point for free variations. Old music is complemented by original contemporary sound fragments.
On six different recorders and an accordion, a layered soundscape is created, ranging from baroque virtuosity to simple melodies. Thus, the concert combines musical history, folk music, and modern compositions into an impressive Gesamtkunstwerk that makes the diversity and beauty of the bird world audible.
