If I stood here in this dress and told you I don't feel like a woman, would you believe me? An euphoric solo performance that explores the phenomenon of non-binary femme identity through storytelling, dance, and twelve black dresses from Becky McFadden's wardrobe. With humor, queer joy, and vulnerability, Black Dress invites you on a celebratory journey of self-discovery. From a sunny terrace in Calabria, through the issue of gender-neutral pronouns in Czech, to a utopian queer ski lodge – which doesn't actually (yet) exist – the Black Dress performance will make you laugh, provoke thought, and above all, allow you to feel pleasure. The iconic 'little black dress' dances in the performance Black Dress in the tension between inner self-discovery and how we present ourselves outwardly, between what is inside and what goes out. One black dress after another, all directly from the artist's personal wardrobe, shape and transform her body, establishing points of convergence and divergence and challenging our basic assumptions about how to fulfill and read gender. Black Dress, a sixty-minute dance lecture built on the symbolism and universality of black dresses, weaves dance, storytelling, queer theory, popular music, and video projection into a rich form that is playful and touching at the same time, inviting the audience on a salon expedition beyond the binary understanding of gender. Dressing is never a simple act. Becky McFadden is an independent artist, dancer, performer, and founder and artistic director of the Beautiful Confusion collective. In her work, she places equal emphasis on intuition and precision and strives to embrace complexity to the fullest. One hour before the start, the INDUSTRA theater bar will be open, which will remain open after the performance depending on visitor interest. We love animals at INDUSTRA, but the theater hall is not a suitable environment for them due to the loud noise – we recommend leaving your four-legged companions at home.
