Inspired by the controversial experiment “Biosphere 2” from the 1990s, the Compagnie Theaterfabulaktur, under the direction of Mathis Künzler, performs in various greenhouses in Bern, Lucerne, and Zurich, taking the audience on a trashy-epic journey to the site of the events themselves. It is arguably one of the most visionary scientific projects of the 21st century. For five years, six scientists live in a hermetically sealed ecosystem – an artificial biosphere built under a glass dome. They test novel life forms for a future of humanity beyond planet Earth. It’s about groundbreaking discoveries, prestige, and nothing less than the survival of humanity. Everything seems to be going according to plan. The systems are stable, the measurements perfect. But an unexpected change throws the harmony within the biosphere out of balance. The entire vision is at risk, and the ambitious project threatens to fail.
