Description

What connections does the city of Bienne have with the rest of the world? This exhibition explores this question by highlighting the diversity of exchanges – goods, money, or ideas – which over time have linked Bienne to the entire world and still influence its economy and culture today. The NMB team has selected ten "key objects" revealing surprising stories and unprecedented associations. Among them, a beaver fur hat once worn by the museum's donor, Dora Neuhaus, a Roman amphora from Spain, or a 19th-century wooden board used for textile printing. Each of these objects opens a thematic universe around which other objects are presented, offering, through a domino effect, new perspectives, unexpected stories, and surprising connections. The exhibition does not follow a linear path: it is up to you, dear visitor, to choose the routes you wish to take. Thus, you can discover at your own pace the dynamic that links local events to global developments.
