Description

Antonia says "Basta!" to the overpriced prices and quickly robs the local supermarket – the prices are simply too high. With her friend, she hides the loot not only from her husbands but also from the investigating Carabiniere. Chaos ensues... Masked as folk theater, equipped with elements of Commedia dell‘arte and improvisational theater, a farce is created that manages to push the political dimensions of our coexistence to the extreme. Dario Fo, Nobel laureate for literature, would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2026. His work and that of his wife Franca Rame are still highly relevant today, only the starting point has changed. In the 1970s, the high food prices stirred passions, but today we are more likely to question the salaries of actors and actresses, and the play would probably be called "No Playing!". In any case, it will be an evening that smells of revolution, of exchanges of blows and sharpness, of witty-absurd scenes and charming confrontation with the most uncomfortable questions of social coexistence. Dario Fo & Franca Rame Dario Fo and his wife Franca Rame always linked their artistic and literary work with politics; both were convinced communists and also worked as politicians. A quote from Fo shows how they could critically reflect on the prevailing power relations through their artistic work: "Power, and every power, fears nothing more than laughter, smiles, and mockery. They are signs of critical sense, imagination, intelligence, and the opposite of fanaticism. I did not go to the theater with the idea of playing Hamlet, but with the view of being a clown, a Hanswurst." Together, they founded a theater ensemble, wrote plays, directed, performed on stage or in front of the camera, and were even banned from public radio station RAI for 15 years because they repeatedly offended prominent personalities from business and politics with their statements. Both were politically active and artistically engaged until their deaths, Rame died in 2013, Fo in 2016.
