The Girl from Ipanema made Antonio Carlos Jobim world-famous and brought immortal fame to the beach of Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro. However, another Bossa Nova was inspired by a beach in California: Surfboard. Tom Jobim was recording in a studio on the beach of Malibu. He was so captivated by the waves and the surfers that he bought a surfboard to take back to Rio as a gift for his son Paulo. In addition to Surfboard, we will play works by Tom Jobim, sambas, touching canções, and a wild frevo from the film Orfeu Negro. Songs by Chico Buarque, Hermeto Pascoal, and others complement the program. Antonio Carlos Jobim was a poet of tones and a master of stylish softness. His songs are Brazilian high culture - and a musical world heritage.
