Description

With "Betwixt and Between," followers of witchcraft refer to the gaps that, upon closer inspection, appear in reality.
In the season "Lost in Translation," Camerata Variabile enters a space between everyday reality and another reality. The works of the evening revolve around the fascination with ghost worlds, summoning, and the supernatural.
Menotti was the first to bring a spiritualist séance to the opera stage, Zinsstag dedicates himself to conjuration in "Incantation," Winkelman attempts musical channeling of significant composers from past eras, and Jolivet wanted to restore music's original connection to magic and ritual. Schumann also dealt intensively with the supernatural and was a passionate glass reader, much to the dismay of his wife Clara. His "Fantasiestücke" form one of the central works of the evening and, with their narrative character, fit into a program where stories play an important role. This musical journey into the in-between is complemented by texts from Franz Hohler. Few others tell of the cracks in familiar reality and those moments when the everyday suddenly tips into the unreal. Participants and additional information:
