In her third program, cabaret artist Betty Dieterle takes on biblical stories, mythologies, and philosophical ideas that shape us and our worldview, questioning their meaning in a cheeky, clever, and feminist way. How was it with Eve and the snake? Was paradise a haven of equality? What does Sheherazade Snakebone, the seductive snake, have to say about the fall from grace? Why was Xanthippe, the wife of the wise Socrates, so angry? How did more than 2000 years of suppression of the female perspective come about?
Thanks to original compositions and repurposed cover versions, thanks to clowning and profound monologues, combined with wonderful ballads and multi-voiced singing, Apocalypso Blues becomes a hellish delight on all levels. Nothing is too sacred for punk diva Betty Dieterle and pianist and soprano Ursula Oelke to be playfully mocked, from which Adam's ribs were made.
Hopelessly positive and full of trust that it will probably still go wrong, the two ladies look cheerfully into a paradisiacal apocalyptic future.
