A woman is floating on a ring under the stage ceiling. A man is spinning in a metal wheel while Blues Brothers basses are playing. Someone is juggling where you wouldn't normally juggle. A handstand on a suitcase tower. A shadow image disappearing in the light. A magic act between two numbers. Best of Varieté doesn't work like a touring show that takes its standard program across the country. Each city gets its own cast. Maik M. Paulsen, a state-certified artist and a longtime resident of the variety scene, curates a new program every evening – so that the acts don't just stand side by side, but build on each other. The result is 90 minutes in which the genre changes every few minutes without breaking the rhythm. The cast for singing

Paulsen is a state-certified artist – in Germany one of the few variety artists who can do the craft on, in, and behind the stage. With Paulsen & Associates, he has been running one of the most sought-after variety productions in Germany for years. The central decision of his work: he doesn't string together top acts, but builds a dramaturgy. A fast piece follows a quiet one. A comedy act after a picture act. A solo after a duo. Because Paulsen doesn't play the standard program but curates a new one for Singen – a version that doesn't exist in Essen or Hamburg.
