The experience lecture "Bergsüchtig – on walls, ridges, and summits" begins with a short biography. Born as the sixth child of a mountain farming family in Ahornach in northern South Tyrol, Hans Kammerlander dreamed early of the three great north faces of the Alps at the Matterhorn, Eiger, and Grandes Jorasses. All these tours were accomplished in the early years of the aspiring alpinist. His extraordinary talent immediately caught the attention of the climbing scene. Years later, Kammerlander managed to ascend the Matterhorn within 24 hours over all four ridges in ascent and descent. However, with the crossing of the three North Face classics, the Alps offered Kammerlander hardly any comparable goals. Now, the very high mountains in the Himalayas and the Karakoram beckoned. An invitation from Reinhold Messner to climb the eight-thousander Cho Oyu in 1982 came just at the right time. Since then, Hans Kammerlander has been "berg-süchtig" and active all over the world.
Hans Kammerlander is one of the most successful high-altitude climbers of our time. But before he could climb thirteen of the fourteen highest mountains in the world, the South Tyrolean exceptional alpinist had to travel a long way.
