The project Becoming George Sand is an original dance performance that connects contemporary dance, physical theater, and costume. It is based on the personality of George Sand, not as a biographical interpretation, but as an inspirational framework for exploring inner freedom, identity, and transcending social norms. The scenic concept is structured as a dialogue between two dancers. One embodies the character of Aurora Dupin / George Sand, while the other represents her alter ego, inner voice, doubts, and desires. This relationship emphasizes the view of identity as a changing and unstable process. The costume is an inseparable part of both the dramaturgy and choreography. It transforms over time and reflects the various phases of identity from freedom and bodily liberty to social constraints and their transcendence. The clothing thus acts as an 'additional actor' that significantly influences movement and the meaning of the situation. The contrast between female and male clothing highlights the relationship between freedom of movement and social norms. The musical component is conceived as an independent dramaturgical layer. It is based on piano compositions that are electronically modified and supplemented with soundscapes and noises alongside the development of the choreography. This creates a changing sound landscape that does not illustrate but actively creates atmosphere and supports the internal tension of the performance. Becoming George Sand is not a biographical portrait but a physical exploration of identity as a process of transformation. The project draws inspiration from the personality of George Sand as a symbol of inner freedom and the natural need to resist social norms. The fundamental concept is the notion of 'becoming,' which understands identity as an open process of continuous change. The performance focuses on the tension between who we are and who we become, between inner experience and external social role, body and norm, individuality and societal expectations.
