(Basel) Memory Space

Description

With «(Basel) Memory Space», the ensemble eeek, Ensemble of the Season 2026/27, honors the composer Alvin Lucier, whose work has profoundly shaped the understanding of sound, space, and listening. Based on selected works by Lucier, the project connects instrumental music with field recordings made specifically for this concert in Basel.
Everyday sounds, voices, and resonances are detached from their original context and enter into a new dialogue with live sounds as sonic memories. This creates a constantly evolving soundscape where music, space, and environment permeate each other. The concert invites the audience to experience the act of listening anew and to question the boundaries between music and everyday sounds.
